To Be Hero X

The new Chinese Japanese animated series To Be Hero X has premiered its first episode, and I’m feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty. The animation is impressive, blending 2D, 3D, and sketch styles seamlessly. The trailer set the tone effectively, and the visual execution lives up to that promise. However, whether this stylistic blend complements the storytelling remains to be seen.

The inaugural episode is so fast paced, introducing a multitude of characters and plot points rapidly. It feels as though multiple storylines are compressed into this single pilot episode, leading to a sense of confusion and lack of clarity. While it’s possible that future episodes will connect these dots through flashbacks or further exposition, the first episode could have benefited from more breathing room to allow both the audience and characters to settle in.

The episode concludes with an intriguing development, but I didn’t find myself particularly invested in the character involved. With only one episode available, I’m hopeful that the series will find its footing and that the choices made in this episode will make sense as the story progresses.
